We have also successfully completed several large-scale projects that have helped make Singapore one of the most efficient transport systems in the world. We are actively and continuously participating in the country’s rapidly expanding rail network, and large scale underground projects for major infrastructural and building works.
Recently, we have been awarded major contracts by Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) to build stations along the Downtown Line (DTL), Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) and on the 21.5km North-South Corridor (NSC) – Singapore’s first integrated transport corridor, featuring continuous bus lanes and at-grade trunk routes to serve public bus commuters, cyclists and pedestrians – to align with the nation’s car-lite vision and sustainability objectives.
Our contracts with LTA also include the construction of the Bugis and Telok Ayer Stations and Tunnels as well as the Gardens By the Bay Station and Tunnels next to the acclaimed Gardens by the Bay greenhouses.
Water / Sewerage
BSS constructed a cement-bentonite cut-off wall to eliminate water seepage through embankments at their contacts with any permeable bedrock of the Dam
BSS used the ground freezing technology to create ice walls to stabilise the earth before conducting tunnel excavation works at this project site. This is necessary because the soil which workers are mining through is highly permeable and susceptible to water seepage.
BSS did Horizontal Site Investigation to reduce tunneling risks by minimizing geological uncertainty
We used a reinforced concrete diaphragm wall built in situ to support the deep tunneling work in the Kallang Basin area which is challenged by soft soil conditions.
Engineers faced challenges from tunneling works in a highly built-up urban city-centre. We therefore used various construction methods to combat these conditions: To manage this , we applied ground improvement techniques and the application of our unique GEOMIX solution that combines the advantage of soil mixing and the recent development of hydrofraise technology contributed to the strengthening of the soil conditions for construction .
The soft soil conditions in the Tanjong Rhu area required us to use our indepth and extensive range of tunnelling services – from drilling, piling, grouting, ground water control diaphragm walls and anchoring. Our engineers had to exercise extreme precision to ensure safety avoid any tunneling issues. The grouting process was also assisted by the use of latest version of grouting control software The SPICE IT (System for Production in Injection works and Control Embarked) to control the grouting plant.
As the Gardens by the Bay Station was built on reclaimed land, our engineers have to be extremely cautious and applied our depth and extensive range of tunnelling services – from drilling, piling, grouting, ground water control diaphragm walls and anchoring.
The Bayfront station is built close to busy and major expressways, other MRT lines, Deep Tunnel Systems and cable systems near the Marina Bay area. Our engineers had to apply our extensive ground engineering techniques from diaphragm walls and soil improvement to ensure high safety standards and avoid any disruptions to the surroundings.
The geological conditions for this project were challenging and Bachy used reinforced concrete diaphragm wall built in situ to support the tunneling works for this project.
